Invisibility in the Industry [140 words].

One of the hardest things about being disabled in the legal sector can be the lack of representation. I mean, in no one’s heads do they picture a Harvey Specter-type wheeling themselves into a courtroom and drinking water from a disability-friendly sippy cup. It isn’t so much the opinions of others that is our largest hurdle, after all, as disabled people we face misrepresentation as part of our daily experience. The truth is that invisibility in the industry has much more insidious ramifications: it affects our self worth and makes it impossible to believe in the physical capabilities of our own bodies.

There is importance, then, in raising the profile of disability in the legal sector and exploring both the fantastic and the mundane day-to-day world of law, from perspectives that are not usually seen and even less frequently heard.
